Flying the Lockheed Constellation

Install the Constellation to your FS2004 \aircraft folder. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions on our installation page.

Press the 'S' key to see the 2D cockpit; press the 'S' key again to see the 3D cockpit and twice more to see the aircraft from the spot plane view. Here's a quick walk around:

  • Press 'E' to start the engine. You'll probably see smoke during startup and the engine burns the oil residue.
  • Press the yoke forward and back to see elevators move up and down.
  • Move the yoke from side to side to see the three rudders move in tandem.
  • Shift + 'E' to see the door and close
  • In the 3D cockpit view you'll see the yoke and pedals move.

Takeoff

Taxi to the runway and set flaps two notches for takeoff.

Set propellers levers for full.

Set tThrottle levers for about 59 inches of manifold pressure.

When you accelerate to about 110 knots, rotate to liftoff.

When abeam the end of the runway, retract the landing gear ('G') and climb to assigned altitude.

Landing

You can drop two notches of flaps when your speed drops below 170 knots.

On final, extend landing gear and drop full flaps as you slow to an approach speed of about 125 knots.

Over the numbers cut throttle and you'll settle onto the runway.
