What are the changes in this update?

The following is a partial listing of the changes for V2.24. Refer to Read Me FSDS.rtf for complete listing

  • Added. Support for FS2004.
  • Added. Help File - new tutorial for scenery animation and landable surfaces.
  • New. Aircraft animation variables AmimatedTimed[xxxx, yyy]. See below
  • Fixed. Cropping rectangles do not match texture.
  • Fixed. Plug-in fails to launch due to path name containing space.
  • New. Scroll bar in Part Name dialog.
  • Fixed. Texture Properties dialog cause sizing problem for some users.
  • New. Texure Properties dialog outlines visible part of image thumbnail.
  • Fixed. View menu 'Center to Part' and 'Center to Object' commands.
  • Fixed. Extruded templates reversed in 'front' view.
  • Fixed. Errors in point tracking in texture properties dialog
  • Changed. Removed spin buttons in polygon texture properties window.
  • Fixed. The 'invert x/y' settings were lost if texture properties window is cancelled.
  • Fixed. Selecting 'Model/Add' created a new model if cancelled.
  • Changed. DESIGNSHAPE macro parameter scaling
  • Changed. Minor adjustments to PartNames.txt and VarPresets.cfg files.
  • New. Tags for API macro header for default parameter values
  • Fixed. Discrepancy in polygon texture properties in displayed Y coordinate and actual texture coordinate.
  • Added check for legal part name in scenery animation generation.
  • Fixed XML export syntax error in texture list
  • New. Zoom capability for the Texture Properties.
  • New. Beacon rotation. Scenery names beginning with 'Beacon' automatically trigger the rotation of a scenery part. 'Beacon' and 'Beacon2' generate a rotation of approximately 8 seconds.

'Beacon3' rotates in about 10 seconds, 'Beacon4' in 12 seconds, and 'Beacon5' in 14 seconds.
New. Scenery animation using key frames. You can set up key frames the same way as for aircraft. Name the part so that it starts with 'AnimateTimed'. This provides a 100 frame animation lasting 6 seconds that plays in a continuous loop.

To control the length of the animation, parameters can be added to the name. For example, the name 'AnimateTimed[12]' gives a 12 second animation. Optimal values are numbers that can be evenly divided into 192, such as 2, 3, 4, 5, 12, 24, 48, and 96. Other values may not give predictable results, but experimentation is encouraged.

The number of frames can also be specified in a second parameter, ie: 'AnimateTimed[12,200]' will create a 12 second animation with 200 keyframes. Additional key frames usually results in smoother animation. 'Normal' values are 100 and 200. The result of using other values is unknown, but may work.

In addition, the name can be in the form 'AnimateVar[033a,100]' where the first parameter is a hex variable offset, and the second is the number of frames. This bases the animation on an internal scenery variable. At this time, this is an experimental feature for experts. Its value is probably limited at this time, but may be expanded in the future.

Note: Including multiple animated parts in a single project may produce unpredictable results.
  • Fixed. Dragging multiple parts was not moving all parts.
  • Fixed. DirectX errors in expanded view operations.
  • Improved texture properties to show all textures at full resolution in a scrollable window.
  • Added support for DXT textures. No more need to manage two sets of textures. Many thanks to Martin Wright for his help with DXT textures.
  • Fixed. 'Split part' command causes duplicate part names.
  • New. Add 'save' warning after editing the model list.
  • Improved. MDL/BGL generation error handling.
  • Fixed. Shadow model appears in other views.
  • Changed. Adjust the default 'texture size' parameter in texture properties.
  • Changed. The FSC files for aircraft in \Samples folder. For these *.fsc files, Part Properties has been set to Area Type '6' so that you can create an Object File (*.BGL) without encountering compilation error.
  • Fixed. Error compiling scenery objects with reflective textures
  • Improved DirectX startup error handling. Switches to 2D mode if unable to use DirectX (tested with NVidia TNT2 card.)
  • Fixed prop0_rpm, etc. variables.
  • Added access to the high byte of all 32-bit aircraft variables.
  • Added v1.6 style transformation processing to part pre-processes.
  • Fixed part pre-processes for FS2000 output.
  • Added protection against deleting hidden parts, points, and polygons.
  • Added toolbar 'Undo' button for convenience.
  • Fixed virtual cockpit gauge - night lighting problem.
  • Fixed shadow model - not visible unless all other models are present.
  • Added support for elevated surfaces in scenery. New menu command 'Polygon/Create Elevated
  • Surface' uses the currently selected polygon (must be in polygon mode) to create an elevated surface using SCASM, ASD Macro, or Airport API format.
  • Added new commands to part menu:
    - First Part - Jumps to first part in the model's part list.
    - Last Part - Jumps to last part in the model's part list.
  • Added new model types:
    - Shadow - Allows the use of a simplified model for casting an aircraft or scenery shadow. This can be a significant frame rate saver!
-Front View - Used for landing lights. Parts in this view only show when the aircraft is close to the ground.
-Down View - View straight down. Parts are only visible when the aircraft is close to the ground.
    - Inactive - An inactive model is not included when an aircraft or scenery project is generated.
Clicking the 'Flight Sim Path' button in app preferences scans the registry and presents a list of FS versions on the system for selection.
