Flying the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter

Install the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to your FSX SimObjects\Airplanes folder or FS2004 \aircraft folder. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions on our installation page.

Press the 'S' key to see the 2D cockpit; press the 'S' key again to see the 3D cockpit and twice more to see the aircraft from the spot plane view. Here's a quick walk around:

  • Press 'E' to start the engine.
  • Press the stick forward and back to see elevators move up and down.
  • Shift + 'E' to see the canopy open and close..
  • In the 3D cockpit view you'll see the stick and pedals move.

Takeoff
Taxi out to the runway.

Normally, you won't need flaps for takeoff.

Apply full throttle and you'll quickly accelerate.

Rotate at 120 knots. When abeam the end of runway, retract the landing gear. Accelerate to about 150 knots.

Climb to desired altitude.

Landing

Approach speed is about 120 knots. You can drop one notch of flaps.

On short final the extend full flaps. You'll continue the approach at 100 knots.

Set down on the main gear and ease down onto the nose wheel.
