A Legendary Plane

 

Since it first appeared in the mid-1940s, the Piper Cub has become almost synonomous with general aviation.

Compared to more modern aircraft, the Piper Cub seems to be a holdover from another era. But it is still remains a winner in the hearts and minds of thousands of flyers from around the world.

The reason - it's simple to fly.

Start her up and you'll hear the zippy 65 HP engine purr. Ease the throttle forward to rev her up. In just a few seconds the tail will gently lift off the runway. Pull back slightly on the stick and she's airborne! Climb a few hundred feet and enjoy the country side at 80 knots.

A Work of Love

Designer Matt Garry is a Piper Cub owner himself. So he's experienced the joy of flying "vintage" many times. This past year, he's carefully recreated this 1946 Piper Cub for the Premier Collection for the flight simmers among us to enjoy.

If you're looking for a plane with a modern instrument panel, you'll have to look elsewhere. This Piper Cub has an original "old style" cockpit. Fly this and you'll be flying in "simplicity".

After all, why would you want to be saddled with all of that high tech gear when it's far more relaxing to look out the Cub's windows to see the farms and fields below?
